Food for Thought-If John Keats had Twitter:The Expressions of Love in the Age of Facebook
This weeks lecture was given by Dr. Lollie White and E.D. Kennedy. Dr. Lollie White has studied John Keats and his writings. He had fallen in love with a girl, Fanny Brahn, and had written her many many love letters. A lot of his other writings were inspired by her as well. These are the written works that he is now famous for. He unfortunatley died at the early age of 26. Dr. Lollie White discussed the sentimental value of a letter as opposed to the impersonal interaction of the internet. E.D. Kennedy backed Dr. White up with stories from her letter writing days. She attended WC back in 1941-1945 during the World War II. She talked about writing letters to her then-boyfriend, later-husband and the personableness included in them. Mrs. Kennedy still has her letters that she wrote to her husband but regretfully didn't save his. It is a possiblity that these letters will end up in the UNCG library for further referencing. She, along with Dr. Lollie White firmly believe that letter writing will always be a sacred art and needs to be kept alive among the younger generations.
